One of those hockey games that was a lot better than subbuteo 'cos you could actually move the players in real time along their tracks with this kind of push-pull system.
It was wicked.

at 16 I came out of care after 10 years
in the September of that year.
I was looking forward to Christmas so fucking much.
As it approached, I realised that I would be better off back in there.
Christmas eve I met a girl who invited me back to her family Christmas and a load of hanky panky.
with her for 2 years, then it all went wrong, but............
at the time........
That was the best Christmas present ever.
Been married now for 24 yrs, kids and grand kids, which is brilliant.
But we make it special for them.
but that old experience made it all possible, and restored my faith in people, I could have gone on the wrong tracks easily that night.

I've not got a good record with presents as a kid. One Christmas I got a 'Johnny 7' gun that was 7 different weapons when you took it to bits. One of them fired really hard plastic bullets and virtually the first thing I did with it even before I'd properly looked at it was shoot my little sister in the face with it.
Confiscated and 'went back to Father Christmas' after about 5 minutes.
That's not even the record confiscation. I sussed that my Christmas present was probably in my parents cupboard a week before Christmas. Again it was another gun that shot rubber bands. Big fuck-off rubber bands. I guess that AND the Johnny 7 would be banned now.
Anyway I thought I'd be able to open it up and have a little play with it, put it back in the box and nobody would know. My mum and dad came home unexpectedly and caught me with the gun on the living room floor and me looking for the bits of my mum's best china tea-pot that I'd shot and smashed. I got my arse tanned for that and never saw the gun again.
